The project EntreAmigos in Mexico has celebrated handing out their first Circular Plastic Credits to waste pickers,

Just over three years after its launch, the 3R Initiative which was founded by BVRio, Verra, Nestlé, Danone, Tetra Pak and others, has transformed from an idea to help solve the problem of plastic pollution into a fully functioning market-based approach.

New guidelines on best practices for credit systems related to the circular economy are now available in the Circular Action Hub.

BVRio’s 'Guanabara Bay clean-up’ project has featured in the new International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Blue Prints Series launched today. The series outlines business models and illustrates the investment structure of a number of Nature-based Solution (NbS) projects.

The Circular Action Hub (CAH) has reached 100 registered projects, in just 12 months of operation. Each of the 100 initiatives are providing important environmental waste recovery services and are displayed in this international showcase aimed at connecting projects with funders.

BVRio features a series of three original stories of female leaders and social entrepreneurs, who promote valorisation of waste pickers' work in the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Their stories tell us how the role of waste pickers is fundamental and complex, as they know recyclable materials like no one else.

BVRio was a pioneer when it created the world's first system of "reverse logistics credits" in 2013. Now, working internationally, the system recently expanded to almost 40 countries with the Circular Action Hub

Circular Action Hub, in partnership with PREVENT Waste Alliance, developed the project "Plastic Credits for inclusive and transparent circularity", which will benefit around 300 waste pickers until June 2022. The project will be conducted by an international consortium and BVRio is the organisation responsible for the activities in Brazil and Mexico. Overall, Circular Credits will be generated for about 1,500 tons of plastic waste collected, sorted and reintroduced in the recycling chain.

The Circular Action Hub has been selected by PREVENT Waste Alliance as one of eight global innovative and sustainable pilot solutions that contribute to a circular economy in low- and middle-income countries.
